A Hat Full of Sky, by Sir Terry Pratchett

This is the second book in Pratchett's wonderful Tiffany Aching section of his Discworld series.

Tiffany is one of the most talented young witches in the Discworld but she must still go through an apprenticeship type training with an older, more experienced witch. It falls to Miss Level to train and bring up the young Tiffany.

The problem with Tiffany's training is that she's so naturally gifted that it's hard to tell that she doesn't know the most basic of things, like making a shamble, and that means she doesn't know how to protect herself. And it doesn't take long for such a gifted young witch to gain the attention of a dangerous force.

Luckily Tiffany has the help of the older witches, like Granny Weatherwax to keep an eye on her and be ready if things go wrong. Tiffany also has a group of other young witches, led by the insufferable Anagramma, who know a thing or two to help her as well. And probably most importantly are Chalk Clan of the Nac Mac Feegle who consider Tiffany to be their "Big Wee Hag" and have sworn to protect her because she is the Hag of the Hills.

"A Hat Full of Sky" was written for children, but it's one of those magical books that was also written for adults. Terry Pratchett was NOT the kind of author to write down to kids. His story telling skills are amazing and this book is a treasure.

We read this in the Audible version, narrated by Indira Varma. Make sure you listen to this one. They get the voices right. Even though it's tough for me to always understand Daft Wully and some of the other Feegles.

Be well, my friends. Read every day and read for fun.
