“A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking” by T. Kingfisher

Beware the Chocolate-Chip Dough Slug!

What a great book! Full of silly ideas, but not really any silliness. From the first line you wonder, "Is this a kids book?"

The answer is, well, yes, but that doesn't mean that it's a childrens book. You know what I mean?

Kingfisher did a great job building Mona's world and working out how magic works. Her villians are kind of clowns, but that's ok because the city rulers are too.

My only problem is the same one Mona had. If the Duchess, who is a sweet old lady, had ony taken action when she should have then a lot of trouble could have been avoided.

But that's how it is, even in real life.
